National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Registration
Which corporations should register?
Under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 (the Act) corporations need to register if they have no holding company in Australia and have met or expect to meet one of the greenhouse gas emissions, energy production, or energy consumption thresholds for reporting.
Corporations can assess whether they are likely to meet reporting thresholds by using the NGER Calculator.
Corporations need to be registered before they can report under the Act.
When do corporations need to be registered by?
For the 2008-2009 NGER reporting period corporations need to apply to register by 31 August 2009.

What information needs to be provided to register for NGER?
The following information is needed to apply to register:
- The Australian Business Number (ABN), head office street address and head office postal address of the controlling corporation.
- The first financial year in which a reporting threshold is met (e.g. 2008-09).
- The full name, email address, contact phone number and postal address of the controlling corporation's Chief Executive Officer or equivalent (CEO).
- The full name, email address, contact phone number and postal address of someone to act as the primary contact person for the controlling corporation. (This primary contact person may be the same person as the CEO).
- The name and ABN of each corporate subsidiary, joint venture and partnership that is a member of the controlling corporation's group.
You can also provide the following information in the registration application:
- A web address to be included on the public register for the controlling corporation and its group
- Whether the controlling corporation or any members of its group are also members of Greenhouse Challenge Plus or the Energy Efficiency Opportunities program.
How do corporations apply to register?
The Registration Application Tool assists corporations prepare a registration application form to register under the NGER Act.
Once completed the registration application form needs to be signed by the CEO and sent to the Greenhouse and Energy Data Officer, within the Department of Climate Change.
The signed form must be posted to the Greenhouse and Energy Data Officer. Contact details are on the NGER home page
Applying for registration is subject to a number of requirements as set out in the NGER Act and the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Regulations 2008.

Corporations that are registered for reporting under NGER Act will have users set up to submit data on OSCAR. It is the responsibility of each user to protect the confidentiality of individual login details for OSCAR. The Department of Climate Change will not be liable for any damage or loss as a result of a user, the corporation a user represents, or a third party, improperly accessing OSCAR using the user's username and password. If you know or suspect that your login details have been compromised, or any other security breach has occurred, you should notify National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Office immediately on 1800 018 831.
