Summary paper:
Projections are a key information input to Australia's greenhouse policy agenda. Projections underpin assessment of the effectiveness of existing policies and measures, and the development of least cost options for further abatement.
Fact sheets:
Cost of abatement
The Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency (DCCEE) has published a Guidance Paper on estimating the cost of abatement of new climate change policy proposals. The document provides a framework and practical guidance for performing a cost of abatement analysis.
Latest projections—Australia’s emissions projections 2010
These projections provide an update of Australia's emissions projections and have three
main elements:
- A projection of emissions for the Kyoto period of 2008–12.
- A projection of emissions to 2020. This illustrates the 'abatement challenge' Australia faces in meeting its 2020 targets.
- Indicative emission projections to 2030.
These projections are made on the basis of current policies and measures and therefore do not include the impact of a carbon price.
